Spring has arrived, which means rain. And if there’s one thing that I love to do on a rainy day, it’s getting a steaming cup of coffee in one hand and a good book in the other while I settle into the sofa with a blanket wrapped around me. Sounds nice, doesn’t it? Romance novels are the most popular books in the whole wide world, but if there’s one thing that I know from reading books, it’s that it’s terribly difficult to find the best ones, which is why I have listed them below for you (you’re welcome in advance).
- Verity by Colleen Hoover
- The Fall Before Flight by L.M. Halloran
- November 9 by Colleen Hoover
- The Bromance Book Club by Lyssa Kay Adams
- After by Anna Todd
Romance is a pretty broad genre that has so many other branches, but if there’s one thing that all romance books have in common, it’s that they make your heart flutter whenever you read them. To read more about each of the books listed and find the perfect book (or books) for that day off of work, scroll down.
Verity by Colleen Hoover
One of the most popular books of 2018, Verity has left a mark on everyone that’s read it. It starts off with struggling writer Lowen who gets an offer to finish bestselling author Verity Crawford’s series from her husband, Jeremy Crawford.
As she moves into their home to finish the series, Lowen starts to learn more about the Crawford family and the reason behind Verity’s inability to write through the manuscript of her autobiography. What follows is a chills-down-the-spine story spun around a budding romance.
This book is probably one of the most different types of romance that I’ve ever read. I finished it in one night and couldn’t sleep for the rest of it because it was so creepy and psychotic, so for the light-hearted, maybe choose a different book to read at night.
The Fall Before Flight by L.M. Halloran
The Fall Before the Flight starts off with Amelia’s twin joining her in a facility called the Oasis to help her. Then, she meets Dr. Chastain, psychiatrist at the facility. They both know they’re dangerous for each other and no matter how much they resist it, there’s this undeniable attraction between them. Just when things start to seem perfect, everything falls.
This one is an emotional rollercoaster.
I have to say that this book is relatively unknown to a lot of people compared to other books for a multitude of reasons, but it’s so worth the read. I finished it in one night because it was so addictive.
November 9 by Colleen Hoover
Taking place over the course of a few years, Fallon meets Ben, an aspiring writer, during her last day in Los Angeles (November 9). Fallon hasn’t experienced this type of happiness in years, while Ben finally has found inspiration for his book.
Their few hours of interaction left them so attracted to each other that they agreed to meet on November 9 next year as well as the years that follow. Each meeting is learning new things about both characters, but soon, Fallon starts to realize that Ben’s hiding something. What ensures after is November 9.
Colleen Hoover is my favorite author in the whole wide world. No discussions. She’s simply superb. I’ve read each and every one of her books and loved all of them, but this one is my favorite for a few reasons, the biggest being the plot. Many romance novels focus on building up the love and attraction between two characters and forget about the plot, but November 9 is different. Honestly, all of Hoover’s books are different, so if you enjoy this one, make sure to read the others.
The Bromance Book Club by Lyssa Kay Adams
The premise of this book is very unconventional, to say the least. It starts out with second baseman of the Nashville Legends Gavin Scott getting asked for a divorce by his wife Thea. Why? Well, let’s just say that Gavin let his pride get to him and started to not care as much for his wife. Realizing all his mistakes, he sets out to win her back before it’s too late with the help of a book club, but it’s not just any book club that he joined.
It’s a secret book club only for the top men of Nashville, who all read romance books to help their personal relationships. What follows is a story about regaining love while also becoming a better person and seeing others past their flaws.
If I had to choose the funniest book on this list, it’s definitely The Bromance Book Club. In addition to being one of the best books about marriage, it’s also a laughing riot. I don’t even remember how many times I laughed-out-loud while reading this book. If this book ends up catching your attention, check out the other books in the series, all of which are standalone novels: Undercover Bromance and Crazy Stupid Bromance.
After by Anna Todd
I’d be surprised if you haven’t heard of this one. The story of After is based around good-girl Tessa and bad-boy Harden. Tessa, a freshman in college, isn’t looking for trouble. She has a boyfriend back at home and a pretty normal life. Then she meets Harden, whose everything that she’s not. She knows he’s trouble, but every time he pushes back, she seems to only get closer. Tessa’s life will never be the same after him.
I have to say that this book has its fair share of fans (and critics). Their relationship is pretty intense, and some would even say that it’s toxic. However, if there was one thing that everyone can agree on, it’s that After is all about love. If you end up liking this, make sure to check out the whole series (After We Collided, After We Fell, and After Ever Happy) and all the movies (the last two are still to come out).
Where Do I Find These Books?
I’d say your best bet to find these books is at the local library. Go to their online catalog, place a hold on the book, wait until you get a notification, and then go pick up your book. Simple as that. Nevertheless, libraries might not be accessible to many people because of the pandemic, so the next best way is to read online.
Since the lockdown, online libraries have increased their collections so much, making a wide variety of books available to the public. A few websites/apps that you can check out are Overdrive, Libby, Zlibrary (my personal fave because there’s no wait and you can download right onto your phone), and so much more.
Where Can I Find More Recommendations?
If you want more recommendations for romance books, or any other genre for that matter, some great websites to check out are Goodreads, What Should I Read Next, Amazon Kindle, and other various blogs. It might take a few tries to find that perfect book, but once you do, there’s no going back. And lastly, like they always say: don’t judge a book by it’s cover.
